We were working on laying out a way to handle changes in state for an integration process we were building the other day, and it just tickles me to think about it now. Basically, we’re trying to figure out how many different permutations there are of three Yes/No fields. We had figured out eight combinations:
But, for the longest time we couldn’t figure out what the ninth one was, because, you know it should be three-squared, or nine, permutations. We scratched our heads for awhile until it dawned on us that it was a binary problem in three options, not three options, so it was actually two to the third. Duh.
I’ve been out of school for a long time…
